Built in 1911, This is a classic American Four Square—once a railroad executive’s home in 1911, then split into a duplex sometime mid-century. We chose to keep it as a duplex, a nod to its layered history and a way to optimize its usage for families today.
These twin homes carried more than a century of history within their walls—and plenty of wear. When we first walked in, they were frozen in time: plaster cracked and sagging, cloth-wrapped aluminum wiring, cast iron pipes groaning with age, and floors that sloped like a roller coaster. The bones were strong, but the years had taken their toll.
So we did what we’ve always done: took it down to the studs and started fresh.
On the Kennedy side, from the kitchen back is entirely new. On the Lincoln side, everything from the living room back was rebuilt. We peeled off four inches of thick mud stucco, uncovering the original siding hidden for decades. What everyone thought was gone forever turned out to be waiting underneath—weathered but proud, just like the house itself.
Inside, we gave these homes new life without losing their soul. Seven-piece crown molding now crowns the high ceilings, adding depth and elegance. Old door knobs were reinstalled, because sometimes the smallest details carry the most charm. Bathrooms were relocated for modern flow, and in the Lincoln, we claimed the attic space to expand its story.
It wasn’t easy—our crew came down from Northern Virginia, family and friends pitched in, and together we pulled off what felt impossible. The result? A home that honors its past while standing tall for the next hundred years.
The Lincoln and the Kennedy aren’t just houses. They’re proof that with vision, sweat, and respect for history, you can take what’s worn and forgotten and make it whole again.
“We loved our stay here. The house is renovated, but still has a lot of that older charm in it. The house is fully loaded with everything you need and lots of space. Its two blocks from Main Street shopping/ eating and two blocks from the beach. You have to go up a set of stairs to get to the main floor, it didn’t bother us and the steps were beautiful and in great condition. Just something to keep in mind if you have someone who who has trouble getting around. There wasn’t an out door shower but there was a hose, and worked for us too! The back patio/deck was new and in better shape than any other house ive stayed at in ape Charles. Book the house! Yu wont regret it. Great house, great host, great location.”
"We had a wonderful stay in Cape Charles! The home was beautifully updated, spotless and well stocked with linens, towels and other thoughtful housshold items that made our stay comfortable. The location was perfect just two blocks from the beach and two blocks from main street full of shops and resturants. "
"Cape Charles VA is a cool little town. We have visited several times. The location of this beach house is perfect. The neighborhood is nice and everyone is guenuinely friendly. The pictures are accurate. The kitchen is stocked with everything you might neeed. Our kids 7 and 9 they loved their little bunk room with their own TV. We loved front porch sitting with a glass of wine. We will be back next year."
"Took the family to Cape Charles for the first time. Honestly, didn’t have any expectations. Was pleasantly surprised with the town, the way of getting around (golf cart)! But the house was excellent. Centrally located near the beach and the town. Spacious and updated. The kids loved the 2 bunks, and we loved our room on the top floor. Definitely will come again!"
"We had a wonderful stay at this home in Cape Charles! It was perfect for our family — clean, comfortable, and filled with thoughtful touches that made it feel like home. The location couldn’t have been better — close to the beach, shops, and restaurants, yet tucked away enough to enjoy some peace and quiet. Our kids had a blast, and the house had everything we needed for a fun and relaxing getaway. We’d absolutely love to stay here again!"
"We loved our kick off to summer getaway at Stacy and Steve’s! They were so responsive and helpful our entire trip! We loved sitting on the porch with our pup for coffee and making sandwiches in the pretty kitchen for the beach. It was the perfect location for walks to dinner, shopping, and ice cream. Plus a short walk to get to beach access! Loved our getaway weekend and will return!"
"The place was as described with three bedrooms adjacent to each other and one upstairs. Open living space connected to kitchen. The location is ideal…. Just a few minute blocks to both beach and downtown (coffee, ice cream, restaurants, shops). Front porch conducive for lounging. Reasonable check out requirements. Beds were comfortable."
"Wow! Staying here is like living inside a Southern Living Magazine! And we really appreciated how dog friendly the home was, complete with a large dog bed, basket of toys, and water/food bowls. The home is close to everything — beach and local shops and food stops. Cape Charles is wonderful and this home was pure Cape Charles."
