The Story of the Lincoln

Our journey to Cape Charles started not with real estate, but with baseball. One of our son’s coaches invited us to stay at their place on Monroe. We’d spent plenty of time in Virginia Beach for tournaments, but this was different. The moment we arrived, we fell in love with the small-town charm, the character of the homes, and the laid-back, golf-cart pace of life. Cape Charles wasn’t just another coastal town—it felt like stepping into a community where time slowed down.

A local realtor offered to take us on a golf cart ride around town, and somewhere between the breezes off the bay and the quiet streets, we knew: we had to plant roots here. That ride ended with an offer on the Lincoln & the Kennedy—a property that had been a boarding home for the last 35 years. Its history was written in plaster walls, aluminum wiring, cast iron pipes, and unlevel floors. Beneath four inches of thick mud stucco, the original siding was still there, waiting to be uncovered.

We took it down to the studs. On the Kennedy side, everything from the kitchen back is new (the deck, the utility space, the bathroom and master bedroom. On the Lincoln side, everything from the living room back became brand new. High ceilings now wear seven-piece molding for depth and elegance. We reinstalled the original door knobs, because charm is found in details you can touch. Bathrooms were relocated, attic space was claimed in the Lincoln, and friends, family, and our trusted crew from Northern Virginia worked side by side to pull it off.

Today, the front still wears its original face—weathered but dignified—while the inside hums with new life. Once an executive’s home, then converted into a duplex mid-century, we chose to keep it that way, honoring its layered history while making it ready for modern families.

The Lincoln & the Kennedy are more than houses. They’re proof of what can happen when baseball brings you to town, when you say “yes” to a golf cart ride with a realtor, and when you trust in the beauty of old bones and second chances.

Our visitors come for the charm and stay for the experience—and their words say it best. Here’s what recent guests have shared about their time in Cape Charles with us.
Elizabeth

“We loved our stay here. The house is renovated, but still has a lot of that older charm in it. The house is fully loaded with everything you need and lots of space. Its two blocks from Main Street shopping/ eating and two blocks from the beach. You have to go up a set of stairs to get to the main floor, it didn’t bother us and the steps were beautiful and in great condition. Just something to keep in mind if you have someone who who has trouble getting around. There wasn’t an out door shower but there was a hose, and worked for us too! The back patio/deck was new and in better shape than any other house ive stayed at in ape Charles. Book the house! Yu wont regret it. Great house, great host, great location.”
